This set covers 91 N2-level words for thinking, perceiving, and judging, ranging from literal seeing (見る compounds) to abstract evaluation (評価する, 審査する) and intuition (直感, 察知). N2 reading and listening sections lean heavily on this vocabulary because editorials, formal reports, and psychological narratives constantly describe how someone perceived, judged, or came to understand something, not just what happened.

了解 vs 了承 vs 了見: same kanji, very different registers
All three nouns start with 了 (to complete or finish understanding), but they diverge sharply in use. 了解 is the casual, everyday way to say "got it" or "understood," while 了承 is its formal counterpart, used when a superior or organization officially consents to a request. 了見 looks similar but means something closer to "one's way of thinking" or "attitude," and on the JLPT it most often appears in a negative context, such as けしからん了見 (an unacceptable attitude). Swapping 了解 for 了承 in a business email is a common learner mistake, since only 了承 signals actual approval rather than mere comprehension.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 見込む and 見当たる?
見込む means to expect or count on something happening, as in 完成が見込まれる (completion is expected), while 見当たる means something turns out to be locatable and is almost always used in its negative form 見当たらない, meaning something cannot be found. Both share the 見 root, but one points toward a future expectation and the other toward a present, physical search.
How do 推測, 推量, and 推し量る differ, since they all mean roughly 'to guess'?
推測 is the most common, neutral term and works in both speech and writing, as in 証拠から推測する (to infer from evidence). 推量 is more literary and turns up in grammar terminology itself, such as 推量の助動詞 (auxiliary verbs of conjecture). 推し量る is a native Japanese verb reserved specifically for inferring someone's unspoken feelings, so it naturally pairs with 気持ち, as in 相手の気持ちを推し量る.
